THE WINE
Duque de Viseu Red is an elegant, rich and very attractive wine. It is made at Quinta dos Carvalhais, one of the Dão region’s foremost standard-bearers for over a decade. Quinta dos Carvalhais is Sogrape Vinhos’ project that led to the renaissance of the Dão region. Today it is recognised as a specialist brand, with a range of quality wines and individual style which reflects the region’s elegance and diversity.

TASTING NOTES
Duque de Viseu 2009 has ruby hue, with a bouquet of violet and black fruits, as well as notes of spices and oak from the portion of the blend that matured in oak barrels. Its palate is a fine balance of all the components and the elegance of the soft tannins which deliver a very lively, stimulating and very enjoyable wine.

HARVEST YEAR
2009 was a very sunny year, with consistent levels of water in the soil and mild temperatures during the vintage, which gave rise to very well-balanced grape musts.

WINEMAKER: Manuel Vieira

VARIETIES: 50% Touriga Nacional, 20% Tinta Roriz, 30% Jaen

WINEMAKING
On arrival at the Quinta dos Carvalhais winery the grapes were separated by variety, underwent de-stemming and were softly crushed. The free-run juice is collected by gravity into stainless steel fermentation tanks with automatic temperature control. Here it fermented for about 6 days, with pumping-over to ensure the soft extraction of aroma components from the skins.

MATURATION
Following fermentation, part of the chosen blend was matured in used oak wood barrels for a period of 12 months, where it remained for 12 months. After the final blend was prepared, the wine underwent the necessary treatments and was then bottled.

STORE
As with all fine Dão wines, this wine has a very long shelf-life, and can remain in excellent condition for up to 10 years. The bottle should be kept horizontally, in a dry an cool place.

SERVE
It requires decanting only if it has aged in the bottle. Served between 14ºC- 16ºC.

ENJOY
The elegance and versatility of Duque de Viseu Red 2009 make it an excellent partner for a variety of meat, game and poultry dishes as well as with cheese.
