Its palate is a fine balance of all the components and the elegance of the soft tannins which deliver a very lively, stimulating and very enjoyable wine.
2009 was a very sunny year, with consistent levels of water in the soil and mild temperatures during the vintage, which gave rise to very well-balanced grape musts.
WINEMAKER: Manuel Vieira
VARIETIES: 50% Touriga Nacional, 20% Tinta Roriz, 30% Jaen
On arrival at the Quinta dos Carvalhais winery the grapes were separated by variety, underwent de-stemming and were softly crushed. The free-run juice is collected by gravity into stainless steel fermentation tanks with automatic temperature control. Here it fermented for about 6 days, with pumping-over to ensure the soft extraction of aroma components from the skins.
Following fermentation, part of the chosen blend was matured in used oak wood barrels for a period of 12 months, where it remained for 12 months. After the final blend was prepared, the wine underwent the necessary treatments and was then bottled.
As with all fine Dão wines, this wine has a very long shelf-life, and can remain in excellent condition for up to 10 years. The bottle should be kept horizontally, in a dry an cool place.
It requires decanting only if it has aged in the bottle. Served between 14ºC- 16ºC.
The elegance and versatility of Duque de Viseu Red 2009 make it an excellent partner for a variety of meat, game and poultry dishes as well as with cheese.
