Porto Ferreira was founded in 1751 by a family that produced and sold port wines: the Ferreira da Régua family.
It had its greatest growth in the 18th century, when it began to invest in higher quality wines, buying and cultivating farms in the Douro region. Already in the 19th century, under the leadership of Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, a descendant of the family, Ferreira reached a unique level, always investing in better vineyards and in the evolution of processes and quality of wines. All these years, the wines have always been aged in cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia, in Porto.
