Description | Alambre Moscatel de Setúbal - Fortified Wine
Alambre Moscatel de Setúbal is a rich fortified wine from Portugal’s Setúbal Peninsula, crafted by José Maria da Fonseca from the Moscatel Graúdo grape. Deeply rooted in the region’s winemaking heritage, this traditional style stands out for its expressive fruit character, luscious sweetness and distinctive aromatic intensity.
In the glass, it shows a pale golden hue with gentle amber-red highlights. The bouquet opens with aromas of candied orange zest, ripe apricot and a fine hint of honey, giving the wine an inviting and layered profile. On the palate, it is smooth and generous, with abundant fruit, a rounded texture and a balanced, lingering finish.
This Portuguese fortified wine is made by interrupting fermentation with the addition of grape spirit, followed by around three months of maceration with the skins. It is then matured in seasoned oak casks, a process that enhances depth and complexity. As it develops through natural oxidation, it does not need further bottle ageing.
Ideal served chilled as an aperitif at about 10ºC, or slightly warmer at 16ºC with desserts, Alambre Moscatel de Setúbal is a versatile sweet wine for lovers of classic fortified styles and intense, perfumed flavours.
