Portugal’s Wines: Terroir, Regions and Native Grapes
Portugal boasts the world’s richest diversity of native grape varieties, with over 250 indigenous types cultivated across the country. It was also the first nation to establish a formally defined and regulated wine region, the Douro. In addition, Portugal is home to two wine-growing landscapes recognised by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites.
