Calem was created in 1859 by António Alves Calem. That same year, the wine producer began exporting the brand to Brazil, at a time when it would normally only be exported to the British Isles or other places in Europe.
Calem wines are grown in the Douro region and are aged in the cellars of Gaia, until today.
